& the Ragtime Millionaires
Luke Winslow-King honors the timeless sound of turn of the century American music with a blend of original songs and tunes believed gone along with victrolas, player pianos, and prohibition. Whether solo, or with a band, Winslow- King shares an original sound as pure as the cotton fields of Mississippi and hot and sticky as a New Orleans summer. Winslow-King’s album, Old, New Baby (Fox On A Hill Record) received attention locally and nationally, and helped him gather followers in all generations. Recorded in 2009 at Preservation Hall, Old, New Baby was named amongst eMusic Select’s within American Songwriter’s Top Ten Albums of 2009. During a decade in New Orleans, Winslow- King has worked with an all-star list of local musicians, and is a leader among a new musical generation flowing
down city’s heralded streets. In 2010, Winslow-King began working with The Ragtime Millionaires, a trio made up of Cassidy Holden, and Esther Rose. With Holden strutting and strumming on the upright bass, and Rose singing and scrubbing the washboard, Winslow-King is able to stretch out and display great versatility on slide-guitar.
After years of weekly gigs on famed Frenchmen Street, working to perfect their sound, Winslow-King and his bunch are spreading their sound across America, and gaining audiences along the way. The Ragtime Millionaires have earned recognition by sharing the stage with blues legends and performing at high profile festivals such as the Voodoo Music Experience (2009, 2010), French Quarter Festival, Hoxeyville, and Dunegrass. In 2010, Winslow- King recorded and self-released a 7” Ep with the Ragtime Millionaires, which was only available at their live performances. A full-length record is expected for the fall.
RECENT REVIEWS: “Love that, love that...and man I would have loved it 50 years ago” – Blues Legend, Taj Mahal
“With sweetly provocative lyrics and a decidedly antiquated bent, Luke Winslow-King’s music delivers in both charm and pitch-perfect arrangements.” – Offbeat.com
“There's something of that traveling troubadour to Winslow-King, that romantic notion of the wandering soul whose songs reveal deep truths and far away lands.” – eMusic Selects 4 Stars
